Agent Mode in ChatGPT Atlas moves beyond quick answers: it lets the assistant carry out tasks on authorised websites under your direction. The feature is currently in preview for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business accounts and is built to keep you in charge at every step.
Before you start
- Update Atlas – Install the latest macOS build and sign in with an eligible ChatGPT account.
- Review permissions – Decide which sites Atlas can see and confirm that sensitive accounts remain restricted.
- Plan the workflow – Break the task into checkpoints you can approve, such as “compare flights” or “build shopping cart”.
Running a task
- Invoke the agent: Ask Atlas to complete the goal, e.g. “Plan a Kyoto weekend trip and book the hotel I bookmarked”.
- Monitor the sidebar: Every click and field entry appears in the log so you can approve or pause before the next step.
- Provide feedback: If Atlas misses context, add constraints like budget caps or preferred vendors to keep the agent on track.
Real-world example
Planning a trip highlights how Agent Mode combines memory and action:
- Atlas recalls that you prefer boutique hotels and vegetarian options (if you saved those preferences in Browser Memory).
- The agent compares destinations, checks saved notes, and drafts an itinerary.
- When you approve, Atlas proceeds to book the hotel and prepares a shopping list for groceries through Instacart.
Stay in control
- Use the pause button whenever you want to take over manually.
- Clear memory or revoke site access the moment the task is complete.
- Switch to incognito if you do not want Atlas to store any part of the current session.
Agent Mode transforms Atlas into a true co-worker: it handles the repetitive steps while you provide supervision and final approval.
